Training in Action

Medical Services achievements are directly linked to the company’s continuing commitment to and investment in people training and development from the time they are recruited into the company and continuing throughout their career.

All staff have an annual appraisal where their ambitions and aspirations are discussed enabling training needs to be identified ensuring steady career progression against the organisations objectives.

Working in close collaboration with Skills for Health and Further Educational Colleges means that external expertise helps to set the learning and development agenda ensuring Medical Services remains at the forefront of staff development.

With fully equipped accredited training facilities at our Centres of Excellence London ambulance stations in Bow, Luton, Alperton, Swansea and Warrington staff undertake courses accredited by the Health and Safety Executive and Edexcel enabling staff to be trained to Emergency Medical Technician standards. Medical Services are also able to offer training courses in First Aid, Manual Handling and a variety of other courses to the public and private sector.

Office staff throughout the organisation are encouraged to hone their individual specialist skills and in the latest round of achievements there have been passes in examinations accredited by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply, Association of Accounting Technicians and Chartered Institute in Personnel Development.

The company is always looking for new innovative opportunities to improve people skills - or example, in 2011 as part of the company’s ISO14001 accreditation, it collaborated with the Energy Savings Trust to give virtually every Medical Services vehicle driver ‘smarter driving’ lessons to improve fuel consumption, save money and carbon and to enhance their driving skills.

Medical Services remains committed to the development of all staff and will continue to work with other agencies to ensure educational standards continually improve.
