New Look Medical Services Targets 5 Year Expansion |

Kevin Shire, Director of Business Development, Sarah Martin, Director Human Resources, Judith Jackson, Director and Contracts Manager Medical Services, has announced a corporate reorganisation as the first phase of a major expansion plan over the next five years. Formerly a trading division of Lewis Day Transport plc, Medical Services has been reorganised into a private limited company managed by its own Board of Directors, with strong NHS experience. Joe Sheehan, who has been appointed Managing Director of the new company said that the new board's "diverse experiences and NHS backgrounds has allowed us to plan to deliver over the next 5 years enhanced workforce skills to provide an even better patient experience and more effective cost controls for PCT and private sector clients". |

Stockport EIS first in Europe |

John Teasdale, Business Development & Manager of Medical Services' station in Warrington and Kath Birkhead, the EIS Lead Nurse & Manager celebrate the launch of the new service with a handshake. The first hospital early intervention service in Europe has been launched by Stockport Primary Care Trust with the help of Medical Services. The EIS will be operated from an urgent referral unit in the town which assesses, diagnoses and treats patients with conditions where good chronic disease management should reduce the need for admission to hospital. The conditions include, for example angina, ear nose and throat infections, diabetes complications and hypertension. It is not a replacement for Accident & Emergency department. The unit is open from 7.30am to 11pm, 365 days a year. It is equipped with x-ray facilities and a basic pathology laboratory. Patients are referred from any health professional in the community. Managed from our new Warrington ambulance station we are providing designated on the spot transport to take patients to hospital or to their homes. |

Blood Services Expansion |

Medical Services has expanded its relationship with Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in London which goes back more than 10 years. As of 1st October, in addition to transporting blood samples, we will be operating a 24/7 service delivering urgently required blood, platelets and freshly frozen plasma to the hospital from the National Blood Service centre in Colindale. Adrian Wildfire, the hospital's laboratory services manager said: "we are pleased to be working with Medical Couriers and hope the new contract will secure the flexible yet robust transport provisions that these vital services require". |

'Green Fleet' for Moorfields
Medical Services is using Britain's first fleet of environmentally-friendly private patient transport ambulances for the non emergency PTS Moorfields Eye Hospital contract which was started on 1st October. The company has a total of 17 Toyota Prius full hybrid electric cars, several of which are seen lined up outside the internationally famous hospital in London. Kevin Shire, Director of Business Development, said that the investment in the Prius fleet was a clear reflection of the company's commitment to developing its 'green' transport policy. Moorfields was founded in 1804 and is today the oldest and one of the largest centres for ophthalmic treatment, teaching and research in the world. 'The Medical Mile' Featured
