High Dependency private ambulances
The High Dependency Units are a key part of the fleet of private ambulances provided by Medical Services.
These highly equipped vehicles are staffed by EMT crews, and are used to transfer stable patients between home and hospital. Our private ambulance service is available 24 hours a day.
If seriously ill patients need treatment while travelling, our High Dependency Unit private ambulances can offer transport to specialist clinical teams. All of our private ambulances are equipped to A&E standard, with:
- Heart monitors.
- SATS monitors.
- Automated external defibrillators.
- Suction units.
- Middlesex carry chairs.
- Piped oxygen.
- Entonox.
To develop our private ambulance services, we now have purpose-built bariatric vehicles, stretchers and wheelchairs.
Authorised crews can use blue lights in an emergency situation, but this is strictly to support NHS staff. Medical Services is not an emergency service.
Our private ambulance teams
The Emergency Medical Technicians that staff our HDU private ambulances are all highly trained and dedicated to patient care.
Our EMT staff can:
- Respond to medical emergencies.
- Transport patients for planned appointments and treatment.
- Transfer patients to and from ambulance vehicles, using suitable equipment and manual handling skills.
- Monitor and care for highly dependent patients while travelling.
- Respond to any other situations that arise from the control centre.
- Record all patient information.
EMT staff also ensure that our private ambulances are always cleaned and ready after every call. This is particularly important when considering infection control and patient comfort.
Our non-emergency medical transport service combines the standards of care you would expect from a modern HDU crew with the flexibility of a competitive, commercially driven organisation.
